BRIAN HUNTER is a musician of wide-ranging musical talent who is respected on the Northern Ireland musical scene as a vocal soloist, organist and choir trainer.
He began his musical career as a chorister in Belfast Cathedral. In the 1970s he became director of Canticle, a group of singers who became a household name due to their regular apperances on television and their performances on radio and the concert platform. In the early 1990s Brian formed a new singing group, Pavane, which also gained a strong reputation for its musical excellence and distinctive style. Since 1995 he has been director of the acclaimed chamber choir, Renaissance, which performs regularly with the Ulster Orchestra and Studio Symphony Orchestra in addition to giving frequent recitals and concerts across the Province. Over the years Brian has held a number of posts as church organist and choirmaster including those at Holywood and Bangor Abbey Parishes. He is currently Acting Director of Music at Belfast Cathedral.
A vesatile musician, Brian performs as bass, countertenor, accompanist or conductor. His sensitive musicianship and interpretive flair blend happily and have often resulted in notable performances by himself as a soloist or by choirs under his direction.
